On papers
I really dislike writing papers, because generally, I have a topic forced upon me that I really don't care about at all. Being extremely lost in life and undecided on my major, I'm taking plenty of classes that have little real relevance to me overall, and even the classes I'm particularly interested in force bullshit upon me. For example, earlier this semester I had to analyze the rhetorical techniques used by some chick to explain why the Central Park Jogger case didn't get at the real issues surrounding New York City in the early 1990s. Do I care about her rhetorical techniques? No, not at all. Even if the case really dug into my heart, I don't care how Didion made her case. Now I'm writing a paper in which I compare two books, and their revelations of two different cultures and how they responded to other cultures. One of the books really sucked, and the other book was ok, but actually revealed a rather small amount of information on said topic. Because I have strong feelings against the topic of this paper, it has very little relevance to me personally. But, I'll still write it, and may get a good grade, even if I don't really strongly believe a lick of what I wrote. That's why papers are bullshit.
